How we check

OpenID Foundation
openid.net/specs directory: latest final version and newer drafts; date = file in the directory.
IETF
Datatracker: latest revision of a draft or the RFC it became; date = revision submitted, status = IESG or RFC Editor state.
ISO
Fact sheet on committee.iso.org (iso.org blocks automated requests): edition, stage, successor in progress; date = publication month.
ETSI
Download directory: highest published version; date = upload to the directory, may differ from the date in the document.
W3C
Technical report page: maturity level and publication date.
European Commission (ARF)
Latest release on GitHub.

The tracker shows a new version immediately. We then update the description in the standards overview by hand; until then it says “New version detected”. If a source is unreachable, the last known state stays in place.
